Brief
History of Wedding Favors
Presenting
wedding favors and gifts to the guests at your wedding is a practice
that dates back over four hundred years. History says that the
tradition of wedding favors started in the 16th century.
Wedding favors are a
traditional part of wedding receptions of various cultures across
the globe.
They
are considered one of the most important wedding accessories needed
to celebrate your big day and are well received by
guests.
Originally
wedding favors were given by the wealthiest people. In different
parts of Europe giving wedding favors was common. Most notably the
French gave out "Bonbonnieres" to their guests and the Italians
called favors "Bomboniere".
These
favors were presented boxes usually made of crystal or porcelain and
would also have the traditional favorite sweets bonbon's. Over time
the contents of these boxes have gone from bonbon's to coating
almonds in sugar-Jordan Almonds. Each
of the five almonds represent one of the five common wedding wishes-
happiness, health, longevity, fertility, and wealth.
